Vietnamese among golfers making cut at big-bonus Lexus Challenge 2024

VŨNG TÀU — Two Vietnamese golfers made the cut while Thai competitors topped the Lexus Challenge 2024's second round on March 14 in Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu Province.

As many as 140 golfers competed at The Bluffs Grand Hồ Tràm course but only 50 qualified for the next stage as per the rules of the tournament.

Teenager Nguyễn Anh Minh and veteran Trương Chí Quân were the only two Vietnamese players who survived the cut. 16-year-old Minh was the only amateur player who qualified for the finals.

Minh made two bogeys but shot four birdies to score 69 in this round. His total of 1-over 143 placed him at 17th place after two days.

Quân also did a good job with two bogeys and two birdies, wrapping up the day with 74. After two rounds, he shot 3-over 147 and stayed in 37th place.

Another player of the Vietnam Golf Association (VGA) Tour who also made the cut was Australian Joel Troy who placed No 45, scoring 6-over 148.

On top of the ranking were Itthipat Buranatanyarat of Thailand and his fellow Thai Sangchai Kaewcharoen. Both scored 4-under 138.

Liu Enhua of China and Jakraphan Premsirigorn of Thailand, who both shot 3-under 139, shared third place.

Round one leader Runchanapong Youprayong had a poor performance as he scored 2-over 140 and dropped to fifth position.

On March 15, the players will compete in the final round with US$85,000 in prize money up for grabs. The winner will walk away with about $14,800.
