HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam needed only 58 minutes to defeat Uzbekistan 3-0 in the second Group C match of the Asian Senior Women's Volleyball Championship on August 31 in Thailand.

Playing against a lower-ranking team who lost to Việt Nam in the recent AVC Challenge Cup, coach Nguyễn Tuấn Kiệt fielded his second-string at Chartchai Hall in Nakhon Ratchasima.

The Cup winners spent several minutes in the first set to find their rhythm before taking lead 5-0 and going on to win 25-12.

There was no change in the second and third sets as Việt Nam continued dominating and won at a much quicker pace 25-11 and 25-9.

It was the second win of Việt Nam after they beat South Korea 3-2, while Uzbekistan earlier lost 3-0 to Chinese Taipei on August 30.

In another match on August 31, the Koreans survived the threat of allowing another opponent comeback after a two-set advantage and squeezed out a 25-13, 25-22, 23-25, 22-25, 15-8 win over Chinese Taipei.

The two qualifying place from the group are still up for grabs, with Việt Nam on top, followed by South Korea and Chinese Taipei. Uzbekistan are the only team out of contention. VNS
