HÀ NỘI -- Hà Nội 1 and Thái Nguyên T&T enjoyed their wins on February 20 at the National Women's Football Cup.

The hosts defeated underdog Sơn La 4-0 with a double by national striker Nguyễn Thị Thanh Nhã at the third and eighth minutes; and one each from Nguyễn Thị Hằng and Nguyễn Thị Tú Anh at the 30th and 50th minutes, respectively.

Standing on top of Group B with six points, Hà Nội has reached the semi-final round.

In the match at the PFV Centre, Thái Nguyên T&T met little challenge before beating Hà Nội 2 2-0 in Group A activity.

Nguyễn Thị Chuyền needed only nine minutes to open the scoring. Her teammate Lê Thị Thùy Trang doubled their tally at the 74th minute. 

Thái Nguyên jumped to second position with six points and will have to wait until the last match between HCM City, currently on top, and Việt Nam Coal and Minerals, in third place, to know if they qualify for the next round.

In the other football news, Hà Nội topped the ranking table after beating Thái Nguyên T&T 3-2 in the second round match of the National Girls' U16 Football Championship on February 20 in the capital city.

Nguyễn Thị Thương, Trương Thị Hoài Trinh and Hà Huyền Mai scored for the hosts. Thái Nguyên's Trần Thị Hương and Đỗ Thị Thúy Nga netted one in each half of the match.

With four points after two matches, Hà Nội lead the table and will play HCM City in the next round on February 23.

In the later game, Phong Phú Hà Nam defeated defending champion HCM City 2-1.

Lại Thị Trà Mi scored the only goal for HCM City at the 20th minute. It was sandwiched between goals by Phong Phú Hà Nam's Nguyễn Thị Hồng Huế at the fourth minute and Đèo Ky Chub at the 61st minute.

Despite having the same four points as Hà Nội, Phong Phú Hà Nam are placed second because of goal difference.

They will next see Thái Nguyên, who are currently in third place. VNS
