HCM CITY— HCM City People’s Committee has instructed leaders of departments, organisations, people’s committees and companies in the city to urge people to donate blood.

The bank currently has about 5,000 packages (250ml-450millitre) of blood remaining. The amount is the lowest level in the last nine months, and will only last for the next five days.

It needs 600-900 packages each day to provide to more than 130 hospitals in the city.

Departments, organisations and companies should work with the Humanitarian Blood Donation Centre and Haematology Blood Transfusion Hospital to hold blood donation programmes.

Dr Phù Chí Dũng, head of the Haematology Blood Transfusion Hospital, said that before June 1, many blood donation programmes were canceled.

In the last several days, health workers at hospitals and officials at relevant agencies have volunteered to donate blood for the bank. However, a shortage still exists.

The hospital has called for more volunteers to donate blood. The Humanitarian Blood Donation Center and the hospital will ensure safety for volunteers when they donate blood.

The hospital staff will make an appointment for volunteers and will limit the number of volunteers to 20-30 for each visit.

“We will divide into many groups at different sites in the hospital to ensure a safe distance of 2 metres. The blood donation sites are spacious and airy. The hospital provides masks and hand sanitisers to volunteers,” Dũng said.

Volunteers should scan the QR code to fill out the online health declaration form before going to the hospital. VNS
