HCM CITY — With the increasing incidence of COVID-19 across the country, the HCM City People’s Committee has instructed the police and Department of Transport to set up 12 checkpoints at the city’s gateways by May 15 to head off any possible spread by infected visitors.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyễn Văn Bình, deputy head of the Traffic Police Division, told Tuổi Trẻ (Youth) newspaper that at the checkpoints officials will measure the temperature of everyone entering by vehicle during non-peak times.

During peak hours the checks would be done randomly to avoid traffic jams, he said, adding people would be told to disinfect their hands and fill health declarations.
