HCM CITY — Construction work on the Ring Road 2 project in HCM City was temporarily stopped after two boys were electrocuted on the building site.

A group of children were playing in the building site on Ụ Ghe Road, Thủ Đức District on Saturday afternoon. Lê Minh Châu and Trương Đặng Văn Bình, both 10, were electrocuted and died. Another girl also suffered an electric shock and is receiving treatment at hospital.

The news was released yesterday by Trần Đức Thắng, director of the Văn Phú Bắc Ái Joint-stock Company, which is conducting the project.

Thắng said initial investigations showed that the accident was caused by unsecured power lines at the site.

The site has warning signs, however, local residents often ignore them and pass through.

After the accident, the Thủ Đức Electricity Company immediately cut electricity in the area.

The road building project will connect Phạm Văn Đồng Road to the Gò Dưa Intersection on Highway 1 in Thủ Đức District. It is 2.75km in length, and is a part of the Ring Road 2 in HCM City. The project started three years ago but still faces problems related to ground clearance. — VNS
