PM orders national land use review

HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc has asked the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, people’s committees at all levels and other relevant agencies to review their land use starting on August 1, 2019.

The review will help the Government assess the land use and management of administrative units from communes, districts, provinces and economic regions across the country in the past five years.

The results are expected to help develop measures to improve efficiency and develop a land use plan for 2021 to 2030.

Types of land that are subject to this year’s revision including rice growing land, forest production land, protection forests, special use forests, wetlands, natural reserves and biodiversity conservation areas.

Communes are required to complete the review by January 16, 2020. Districts are required to finish by March 1, 2020, provinces by April 16, 2020. A national report is expected to be completed by June 16 next year.

The ministries of Defence and Public Security are required to submit their land use reports to the environment ministry by April 16, 2020.

According to a Government report delivered to the National Assembly early this month, Việt Nam has more than 33 million hectares of land, of which more than 31 million hectares is in use. There are nearly 27.3 million hectares of agricultural land. — VNS
