HÀ NỘI – Police in Hà Nội’s Đống Đa District have decided to launch criminal proceedings against a drunk driver following a deadly crash on Vĩnh Hồ Street on Monday.

Đỗ Xuân Tuyên, 49, has been charged with violating traffic regulations. He will be held pending further investigation, Thanh Niên (Youth) newspaper reported.

According to police, at 11:15pm on Monday, Tuyên collided with five motorbikes and one electric bicycle while he was driving on Vĩnh Hồ Street.

After that, he drove to Tây Sơn and Láng streets. Then he crashed into a garbage truck, killing a worker on the spot.

After killing the female worker, Tuyên fled and crashed into a motorbike and a car, injuring the motorbike driver.

Tuyên only stopped attempting to flee when his car broke down.

He was set upon by local residents and handed over to police after he tried to escape.

On Tuesday, Uông Việt Dũng, chief office of National Traffic Safety Committee, told Thanh Niên (Young People) newspaper that Tuyên was drunk at the time of the accident.

At the police station, Tuyên also confessed that he drunk five to seven glasses of beer and could not control his speed. VNS
