HÀ NỘI — Hà Nội’s Transport Department has asked Transport Corporation Hà Nội (Transerco) to stop the operation of more than 100 coaches at the city’s coach stations for one month.
These coaches failed to meet passenger targets and did not run on 70 per cent of their assigned routes.
Nguyễn Anh Toàn, Transerco director, said a lot of coaches run on the same route, leading to an oversupply.
At Giáp Bát Coach Station in December, 2018 and January, 2019, about 66 transport companies with more than 100 coaches did not run on 70 per cent of their assigned routes.
Nearly 30 companies did not operate for many months.
At Nước Ngầm Station over the two months, 266 routes of more than 100 companies including Mỹ Đình International Joint Stock Company, Hoàng Sơn Trade and Transport Limited Company did not operate.
Since early 2017, provincial coach routes from Hà Nội to Nam Định, Thái Bình, Hà Tĩnh, Nghệ An have been asked to depart at Nước Ngầm Station in Hoàng Mai District instead of Mỹ Đình Coach Station, 15km from the new one.
Sales of many coach operators have declined since then. Many coaches have only two to three passengers at the departure time. Many coaches have to run along streets to pick up passengers, causing traffic chaos.
The city’s Transport Department asked relevant agencies to supervise provincial coaches to discover the ones that pick up and drop off passengers or load and unload goods at the wrong location. — VNS
