KHÁNH HÒA — Six people suffered serious burns after two men soaked themselves in gasoline while sitting next to a charcoal grill in the central coastal province of Khánh Hòa late Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred at about 4:30pm. The victims were drinking alcohol in an empty lot in Vĩnh Lương Commune, Khánh Hòa Province’s city of Nha Trang, when two of them soaked themselves in gasoline.

Police have conjectured that, while inebriated, the victims challenged each other to cover themselves in gasoline.

The nearby grill ignited the two men, eventually inflicting serious burns on all six of them. They were taken to a provincial facility for emergency treatment, and then two were transferred to HCM City for further treatment.

By Wednesday morning, communal authorities had identified five of the victims. They are aged between 24 and 37 and all reside in Vĩnh Lương Commune.

A representative of the communal Police Department told Dân Trí online newspaper that police were collecting information from witnesses and examining the scene to investigate the cause of the incident. — VNS
