HÀ TĨNH — Phạm Thị Thu Hiền, a bus owner and attendant who assaulted a passenger on Monday afternoon, showed up at the Cẩm Xuyên District Police Department in Hà Tĩnh Province for investigation, Major Lê Viết Đường said on Wednesday.

“The male driver who also beat the passenger, Hiền’s husband Phan Văn Lĩnh, did not appear,” said Đường.

At 3pm on Tuesday, Hà Tĩnh Province Police seized the bus, numbered 38B-011.16, when it stopped illegally on Xuân Diệu Street to pick up passengers.

Lĩnh could not present requested legal documents, including a driving licence.

On Monday afternoon, Võ Thị Hoài rode the bus from Hà Tĩnh. Because the driver was driving dangerously and shouting at passengers, she asked to get off.

Thinking the bus was operated by Hà Tĩnh Bus Transportation Company, Hoài took a photo of it, intending to report the driver to the company’s hotline.

Seeing her take the photo, the driver and the attendant jumped off the bus and beat her. Several bystanders did not dare intervene for fear of being attacked.

Lieutenant Colonel Võ Côn Sơn, head of Cẩm Xuyên District Traffic Police, told Tuổi trẻ (Youth) newspaper the bus driver had been fined several times before running traffic lights, not having vehicle registration and stopping illegally.

“Last year, the bus driver was fined and had his licence seized for running a red light,” he said. — VNS
