HCM CITY — Vehicles will be prohibited on HCM City’s Nguyễn Huệ Street, where the middle portion is for pedestrians only, on Saturday and Sunday evenings from March 1, the Department of Transport has announced.

It explained that a large number of motorbikes and cars travel to the street on weekends, hassling the pedestrians there.

In 2015 a broad swathe in the middle of the boulevard was made the city’s first walking-only street though there are two lanes on either side for vehicles.

It has become a huge hit with both locals and tourists who flock here in huge numbers especially during weekends and holidays.—VNS
