HẢI PHÒNG — The Ministry of Defence handed over 14.2ha of military land in Thành Tô and Cát Hải wards in Hải An District to the Hải Phòng City administration on Wednesday.

The land will be used to serve socio-economic development in the northern city.

Speaking at the handoff event on Wednesday morning, Senior Lieutenant General, Deputy Minister of Defence Lê Chiêm said the land was transferred to city administration following Government document 843/TTg-KTN. The land was previously managed by the ministry’s Corporation 319.

However, he said local residents had illegally built 212 houses on the land and the situation had yet to be fixed.

Chairman of the city People’s Committee Nguyễn Văn Tùng said the city would make a plan to quickly deal with violations after receiving the land.

Tùng asked the corporation to work closely with the committee to clarify the responsibilities of individuals and organisations that built the unlawful houses.

Chiêm said if the city administration had any difficulty handling the violations, it should refer them to the ministry. If the ministry also could not settle the matter, a report would be sent to the Government. — VNS
