Two pilots killed in military aircraft crash in Nghệ An

Two trainee pilots were killed when their military aircraft went down in the central province of Nghệ An on Thursday afternoon, Viet Nam News Agency reported.

NGHỆ AN — Two pilots were killed when their military aircraft fell down in the central province of Nghệ An on Thursday afternoon, Vietnam News Agency reported.

They have been identified as Lieutenant Colonel Khuất Mạnh Trí, 40, deputy head and Chief of Staff of Regiment 921 from Hà Nội’s Sơn Tây Township, and Colonel Phạm Giang Nam, 46, deputy head and Chief of Staff of Regiment 921 from northern Thái Binh Province.

The Su-22U aircraft from Division 371 lost contact at 11.35am on Thursday during a training session.

It was found in Dừa Village, Nghĩa Yên Commune, Nghĩa Đàn District.

According to initial information, the aircraft departed from Sao Vàng Airfield in Thọ Xuân District in neigbouring central Thanh Hóa Province. 

The Ministry of Defence ordered the Air Defence-Air Force Service to coordinate with relevant units to deal with the incident. — VNS
