HÀ NỘI — The 20m-wide green barrier on Nguyễn Chí Thanh Street in Hà Nội will be narrowed to about 4.4m to widen the road for traffic.

The city People’s Committee has asked the Transport Department to carry out the work next January and finish it before the Tết (Lunar New Year) holiday, which is in mid-February.

The 1.8km-long Nguyễn Chí Thanh Street opened in 2001 and was titled the most beautiful street in Việt Nam by the Transport Ministry.

The street has six lanes separated with a green barrier, on which grass and trees are grown.

In the last few years, the street has been overcrowded and has seen serious traffic jams.

In certain cases, people drive over the barrier and ruin the grass.

Previously, Trần Duy Hưng Street that linked to Nguyễn Chí Thanh Street also had its green barrier narrowed. — VNS
