THANH HÓA — A hundred and nine food poisoning patients in the central province of Thanh Hóa were released from a local hospital on Wednesday.

A total of 109 textile factory workers were taken to the Sầm Sơn General Hospital at the beginning of this week due to food poisoning, the Lao Động (Labour) online newspaper reported.

Many of them started showing symptoms of nausea, stomachache, diarrhea and developed high fever after breakfast at a nursing centre in Thanh Hóa City on Monday.

More patients were hospitalised on Tuesday with similar symptoms, Lê Thanh Đồng, director of Sầm Sơn General Hospital, said.

The hospital had to operate beyond its capacity because of the mass food poisoning. Twice as many as the usual number of hospital employees and equipment were mobilised for treatment of the patients.

The patients were workers of the Yên Lạc textile factory in Hòa Bình Province, some 100km north of Thanh Hóa, who were visiting Sầm Sơn Beach on vacation. — VNS
