QUẢNG NINH — Fourteen foreign tourists, one tour guide and a crew of six were rescued early Tuesday morning after a fire occurred on their boat in Hạ Long Bay, Quảng Ninh Province.

The passengers and crew had spent the night at sea near Ti Top Island in Hạ Long Bay - a UNESCO World heritage.

The boat Ánh Dương QN 3598 of Ánh Dương 1 Tourist Ltd Company offered sleep-on-bay service at Nhà Lát Point, Luồn Cave, and caught fire while returning to Tuần Châu Island.

As soon as the fire was detected, relevant authorities were informed and reached the site on time, successful in rescuing all on board

Vũ Văn Diện, vice chairman of Quảng Ninh Province People’s Committee, was present at the scene and directed the rescue effort personally.

He also asked for an inspection of firefighting and prevention procedures and other safety criteria. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

At noon of the same day, the provincial People’s Committee decided to suspend all six other boats of the Ánh Dương 1 Ltd Company for examination. They would resume operation only when the examination proves that they are qualified. — VNS
