ĐẮK NÔNG — A 40-year-old man, Đặng Văn Hiến, wanted for murder as per a decision of Đắk Nông People’s Court, has surrendered, director of court Nguyễn Văn Cường said today.

Hiến, a resident of Quảng Trực Commune in Tuy Đức District, confessed to shooting at employees of Long Sơn Company last Sunday. The incident killed three people and injured 16 others.

Earlier, provincial authorities seized a number of guns and other objects as evidence in relation to the shooting.

On Friday, the Đắk Nông People’s Court also initiated legal proceedings against Ninh Viết Bình, 34, a resident of the northern province of Thái Nguyên, who is absconding. Officials, who are on the lookout for Bình, caught Hà Văn Trường from the northern province of Lạng Sơn.

Three staffers from Long Sơn Company’s forest protection team were shot during a conflict with locals at a cultivation plot in Quảng Trực Commune. When the team started using bulldozers to level the land, several locals gathered at the scene, many carrying sticks, knives, machetes and country-made guns. Things got out of hand, and some local people opened fire. The injured were taken to Tuy Đức hospital for treatment. — VNS
