HCM CITY — Public officials, civil servants, and employees of advisory and assisting bodies of the HCM City Party Committee have contributed more than VNĐ230 million (US$9,100) to the 2026 "For the Fatherland's Seas and Islands - For the Frontline of the Fatherland" fund.

The contributions were raised following a campaign launched by the Việt Nam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee of HCM City that called on government workers in the city to donate one day's salary.

Phạm Minh Tuấn, vice chairman of the city VFF Committee, said border areas, seas, and islands are a sacred and indivisible part of the country.

"On remote islands and border lines, officers, soldiers, and local residents work day and night to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty. Behind their silent sacrifices is a solid rearguard offering faith, affection, and steadfast support."

Proceeds from the fund have previously financed vital welfare and infrastructure projects in border zones, including the "Fresh Water for Border Areas", solar power installations, and housing for underprivileged people.

Advisory agencies of the city Party Committee contributed VNĐ283 million ($11,200) during their weekly flag-raising ceremony.

The campaign will feature a 90-minute televised art exchange programme titled "From the City Named After President Hồ Chí Minh – Sending Full Affection to the Frontline" on August 15 at Hoà Bình Theatre. — VNS
