South Korean fugitive on Interpol red notice arrested at Đà Nẵng beach resort

ĐÀ NẴNG — Police in the central city of Đà Nẵng have arrested a South Korean national wanted under an Interpol red notice while he was hiding at a coastal resort, according to an announcement on on Friday.

The suspect, identified as 47-year-old Joo Young Su, was wanted by South Korean authorities over alleged fraud offences and had been subject to an Interpol red notice issued on April 22, per Đà Nẵng Police Department.

Criminal police in Đà Nẵng received a request from the Ministry of Public Security’s Investigation Police Agency on May 8 to verify, detain, and hand over the fugitive to the South Korean authorities.

After receiving the request, officers launched a search operation and reviewed foreign nationals residing in the city.

Authorities later determined that Joo had entered Việt Nam and registered temporary residence in the Duy Nghĩa Commune area of Đà Nẵng (near the old town Hội An). Police said he had been staying at a beachside resort under the guise of tourism.

On May 11, after verifying his identity, officers confirmed the man was the same suspect named in the Interpol red notice and arrested him in accordance with Vietnamese law.

On May 13, Đà Nẵng criminal police coordinated with the Immigration Department to hand the suspect over to South Korean authorities at Đà Nẵng International Airport, following instructions from the Ministry of Public Security. — VNS
