HCM CITY — Việt Nam’s two biggest international airports are preparing for a sharp rise in passenger traffic during the upcoming Hùng Kings Commemoration Day and the April 30–May 1 holiday period, with forecasts pointing to double-digit growth over normal operations.

Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport in HCM City expects to handle roughly 125,000 passengers a day during the peak travel window from April 24 to May 3, a 14 per cent increase from its usual daily throughput.

Flight operations are projected to average about 750 departures and arrivals per day, up 12 per cent from the current schedule, with the bulk of the increase driven by domestic routes.

The busiest days -- April 24, April 29 and May 3 -- are expected to see around 770 flights and 130,000 passengers each.

At Nội Bài International Airport in Hà Nội, the holiday period is also expected to be highly congested.

The northern air hub forecasts about 114,000 passengers on its peak day, April 29, a 15 per cent increase over normal levels and more than 12 per cent higher than the same period last year.

Flight operations on that day are projected to reach 652 movements, up more than 9 per cent from both typical operations and the corresponding period a year earlier.

International traffic is projected to account for 323 flights, carrying more than 52,000 passengers, up more than 7 per cent operationally and a sharp 29 per cent year-on-year increase.

Domestic flights are expected to reach 329 movements with about 62,000 passengers, rising more than 11 per cent from normal operations.

"Although the overall market has seen some frequency cuts due to supply fluctuations and fuel prices, Nội Bài is still recording stable growth, especially from new airlines and increased frequencies from international partners," a senior airport official said.

Passengers are advised to arrive early, at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international departures and to check in online, use self-check-in kiosks or verify identity through the VNeID biometric app to reduce waiting times.

With Level 1 aviation security measures in effect from April 29 to May 4, officials warned that screening and processing times may be longer than usual. Travellers are also cautioned not to carry luggage on behalf of strangers, to stay updated on flight status and to contact airport staff immediately if any issues arise. — VNS
