ĐẮK LẮK — The Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in collaboration with CARE in Vietnam, local authorities in Đắk Lắk and Gia Lai provinces, and the Community Development Centre in Đắk Lắk, implemented a multi-purpose cash assistance programme for households severely affected by Typhoon No. 13 and subsequent flooding.
The programme is being carried out during the third and fourth weeks of January 2026 as part of post-disaster humanitarian relief efforts.
The assistance is being delivered in four communes – Yang Mao, Đồng Xuân and Phú Mỡ in Đắk Lắk Province, and Tuy Phước Đông in Gia Lai Province. These areas suffered heavy damage to housing and livelihoods due to floods, flash floods and landslides triggered by Typhoon No. 13 and heavy rains in late November 2025.
Thái Minh Hương, a representative of the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, said that close coordination between the ministry, CARE and corporate partners such as Coca-Cola, JPMorgan and Pepsi helped optimise relief resources.
“Distributing cash [assistance] in January 2026, just before the Lunar New Year, is not only financially significant but also a great source of moral encouragement, helping residents stabilise their lives soon,” Hương said.
Funding for this assistance was mobilised from contributions by Coca-Cola, JPMorgan, the Pepsi Foundation and CARE’s emergency relief fund.
Beneficiaries of this project include vulnerable groups, female-headed households, the elderly, and families who lost all assets in the floods. Each household received VNĐ4 million (US$152.3) in cash, enabling them to meet essential needs or reinvest in agricultural production, such as purchasing seedlings and livestock. In addition, 11 households in Yang Mao Commune, Đắk Lắk Province, received VNĐ25 million ($951.7) each to repair their homes.
Nguyễn Ngọc Tiến, deputy chairman of the Đồng Xuân Commune People’s Committee, said: “As the direct implementing unit, we are committed to close coordination to ensure the VNĐ4 million grant reaches each household quickly and fairly. This is vital capital for the community to recover production after the storm." — VNS
