AN GIANG — Work to upgrade the 51.5km Lộ Tẻ - Rạch Sỏi Highway between Cần Thơ City and An Giang Province is set to be completed in September, enhancing regional connectivity.

The work was 72 per cent complete at the start of August. Started in June at an estimated cost of VNĐ750 billion (US$28.6 million), it will upgrade the existing road without any widening or requiring additional lands.

Vehicles are allowed through the construction site since it is a very busy route especially after the merger of Kiên Giang and An Giang provinces.

While road milling to remove the existing layer has been completed, the pavement of the road with two layers of asphalt will be finished in August.

A traffic safety system and reinforcement of 48 culverts are expected to be completed by September.

To ensure the work is completed on schedule, 22 construction teams are working with around 200 workers. Weather conditions are also favourable. — VNS
