Việt Nam sees sharp drop in traffic accidents in five months

HÀ NỘI – Việt Nam recorded 7,853 traffic accidents nationwide from December 15 - May 14, resulting in 4,328 deaths and 5,307 injuries, a major decline from the previous year, according to Chief of the Office of the National Traffic Safety Committee Trần Hữu Minh.

Data from the Ministry of Public Security’s Traffic Police Department, the Việt Nam Maritime and Waterway Administration, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Việt Nam (CAAV) showed that crashes plummeted 25.17 per cent, deaths dipped 5.5 per cent, and injuries fell 34.64 per cent compared to the same stretch last year.

Road accidents, the bulk of the total, numbered 7,781, with 4,277 deaths and 5,292 injuries, reflecting declines of 25.31 per cent, 5.56 per cent, and 34.72 per cent, respectively. Railway accidents fell to 47, down 7.84 per cent, with 30 deaths (down 21.05 per cent) but a 42.86 per cent hike in injuries, totaling 10.

In aviation, the CAAV logged 114 mandatory safety reports from December 16, 2024, to May 15, 2025, including one Level C, 31 Level D and 82 Level E incidents, with no serious Level B. Tech failures caused 18 incidents, while human error triggered 12. VNS
