HCM CITY — Vietnamese authorities have repatriated 13 Cambodian nationals, including three minors, who were found to be illegally employed at a veneer processing facility in Việt Nam.

Following an inspection last Saturday, the Immigration Management Department of Bình Phước Province in southern Việt Nam imposed a penalty of VNĐ57.5 million (US$) on the owner of the Vạn Thành II veneer processing facility in Phú Riềng District’s Long Hưng Commune for the illegal employment of foreign workers.

“These punitive measures aim to deter the practice of illegal labour and protect the rights of both employees and employers within the established legal framework,” said the authorities.

Under Vietnamese law, the illegal employment of foreign workers constitutes a violation of regulations pertaining to labour management and residency.

Such violations pose significant risks to public security and order, as well as to the working and living conditions of the affected individuals.

The issues of illegal immigration and the employment of foreign workers remain a critical issue between the two neighbouring countries, with many migrants implicated in online fraud activities.

Recently, authorities of the Mộc Bài international border gate in Tây Ninh Province identified 14 individuals among 410 Vietnamese citizens returning from Cambodia who are suspected of involvement in online fraud schemes.

Of the 410 citizens, 106 had exited Việt Nam legally through official border crossings, while 304 others had crossed the border illegally via various provinces. — VNS
