HÀ TĨNH — A landslide struck a construction site in Hà Tĩnh Province on Monday, leaving three workers dead and injuring four others.
According to survivors, the landslide happened at 3pm as workers were taking shelter from the rain in their camp. A massive torrent of earth and rocks came crashing down, engulfing the camp and trapping several people.
"In just five seconds, rocks were rolling down, burying our camp," recounted Hoàng Đức Thắng, one of the injured workers.
"We shouted and ran for our lives, but some people couldn't escape in time and were buried alive."
Rescue teams were quickly mobilised to the site and the bodies of the three deceased workers were recovered. The four injured were rushed to Kỳ Anh General Hospital for treatment.
"The situation is stable now," said Nguyễn Thị Kim Oanh, Director of Kỳ Anh General Hospital.
"We are continuing to monitor and treat the four injured workers."
The deceased workers have been identified as N.N.H., 17, from Quỳnh Lâm Commune, Quỳnh Lưu District, Nghệ An Province; Đ.H.L., from Công Chiêng Commune, Măng Giang District, Gia Lai Province; and Đ.S., Đ.H.L.'s younger brother.
The injured workers are Hoàng Đình Thủy, 33, Hoàng Đức Thắng, 41, Đồng Anh Ngọc, 55, all from Quỳnh Lưu District, Nghệ An Province; and Nguyễn Đức Thành Văn, 27, from Chơ Long Commune, Kông Chro District, Gia Lai Province. — VNS
