HÀ NỘI — A schoolboy is in a coma with a serious brain injury after a fight with another pupil on the basketball court.

Police in Long Biên District, Hà Nội, are investigating the incident that took place on March 17 around 2pm at the Đình Lệ Mật court in Việt Hưng Ward.

"We have obtained information and have organised an investigation. However, because the child is in a coma, we have not been able to assess the situation," said a senior police officer.

According to the victim's family, the student, N.H.Đ, born in 2010. is currently in a state of brain death.

It is understood the injured boy got into an altercation with a sixth grader who left the court but returned with a large group of youths.

It is alleged the gang assaulted the 14-year-old who was rushed to hospital. His condition is said to be serious with little chance of him making a full recovery.

Law enforcement authorities are continuing their investigation. — VNS
