HÀ NỘI — A 27-year-old Vietnamese female currently studying in Europe is believed to have gone missing, after more than a month of losing contact with her close relatives in Việt Nam.
Nguyễn Bích Ngọc, known by her nickname "Emma" to foreign friends, has been studying in a postgraduate programme at the Skema Business School - Campus Grand Paris in France since 2022. She went to Amsterdam in the Netherlands for an internship from September to December 2023.
On January 28, Ngọc's parents in Việt Nam had a two-hour long call with her, and it was the last they had heard of Ngọc for about a month. According to Ngọc's father, Nguyễn Cao Đẳng, the family is doing all that they can to search for Ngọc, and think that the girl went missing in either France or the Netherlands.
According to her parents, Ngọc, who is due to graduate in June and has a visa expiration date of September 2024, was admitted to a job at an American investment bank, believed by the family to be Goldman Sachs' Amsterdam branch, where she earlier worked as an intern.
Ngọc earlier told her family that she rented a room in an apartment run by a Senegalese woman during her internship in Amsterdam. However, as the visa deadline is approaching, the family presumes that Ngọc went back to France.
"We have been sleepless the past days waiting for news of our daughter," said Đẳng, "We are actively collaborating with authorities hoping for some updates on her."
A latest update on a relative's social media page said that the family have reported to Dutch and German police, and the search is underway. Ngọc's aunt has travelled to France to work with the investigators.
Đẳng also said that anyone who has information on Bích Ngọc may contact him through the number +84 982 968 299. — VNS
