LÀO CAI —A new forest fire spot in the Hoàng Liên National Park was discovered at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Dền Thàng Village, Tả Van Commune, Sa Pa Town.

Speaking to the Vietnam News Agency on Thursday morning, Tô Ngọc Liễn, chairman of the Sa Pa Town People’s Committee, said that the new fire spot was about 500 meters away from the old ones, which occurred three days ago.

After discovering the new fire, firefighting forces including forest rangers, police, civil defense, and hundreds of local people approached the fire.

It is assessed to be larger than the previous ones.

The vegetation layer is thick, the wind is strong, and the terrain is difficult, posing many obstacles for firefighting work.

The forces used flycams to determine the fire's location and assign tasks to different teams.

The Lào Cai Forest Firefighting Command Station assigned 600 more people divided into four teams to access the fire.

The burned forest areas were mainly poor forests, said Liễn.

Three other forest fire spots occurring in the Hoàng Liên National Park on Monday at the height of 1,900-2,000 meters were basically extinguished. — VNS
