HÀ NỘI — Five people will be criminally investigated for illegally transferring more than VNĐ4.355 trillion (US$182.1 million) across the border over a two-year period.

Investigations showed that Đào Thị Oanh (director of ADIA, East Global, DO Việt Nam, and Việt Nam industrial zone services companies) and her accomplices established and operated dozens of companies.

According to investigators, they opened bank accounts and created fake import contracts and advanced 50-70 per cent of the contract value via online bank transfers.

It is alleged that after transferring the money, they did not import any goods, did not declare tax and then went on to dissolve the company to hide their violations.

Using this trick, from 2021 to 2022, Oanh and her accomplices allegedly transferred VNĐ4.355 trillion abroad.

The Investigation Police Department (C03) under the Ministry of Public Security issued a decision to file a criminal case for the crime of illegally transporting money across the border specified in Article 189 of the Criminal Code 2015, amended in 2017.

Investigated alongside Oanh are Nguyễn Hồng Anh (Director of Phương Diễm Company, chief accountant of FuTu Company), Nguyễn Thị Hồng Hạnh (chief accountant of Phương Diễm Company), Vũ Thùy Linh (director of Alpha Company) and Mai Thị Thu Hà (Director of Earth Vibes Company).

Following the approval of the Supreme People's Procuracy, the Investigation Police Department executed the decisions and procedural orders against the above five accused in accordance with the law.

Currently, the department is urgently investigating and consolidating documents and evidence on the criminal acts of the accused, expanding the investigation to related organisations and individuals; verifying and distraining assets for recovery. — VNS
