THANH HÓA — A short-circuited electric bike on charge caused a fatal fire Wednesday night in the coastal city of Sầm Sơn, causing two deaths. 

The victims are a grandmother, born in 1960, and her grandchild, born in 2018. 

The fire broke out on the ground floor while both of them were sleeping on the second floor. The cause of death has been identified as asphyxiation.

The neighbourhood immediately called the fire department when they discovered flames coming out of the house, but the intense blaze caused difficulties for firefighters. 

Local authorities have paid a visit and sent condolences to the family of the victim. — VNS
