HÀ NỘI — To meet its goal of providing 30 hospital beds per 10,000 residents by 2025, Hà Nội needs at least another 4,200 hospital beds, according to Director Trần Thị Nhị Hà of the Hà Nội Department of Health.
Hà emphasised the importance of cooperation between local hospitals and government agencies to address challenges and accelerate the development of hospital projects.
The success of this collaborative effort is critical to ensuring that Hà Nội's growing population has access to the healthcare resources it requires.
He said a strong focus should be placed on Hà Nội Children's Hospital, Hà Nội No. 2 Heart Hospital, and Hà Nội No. 2 Oncology Hospital.
According to the Hà Nội Department of Health, the capital city has nearly 80 hospitals and healthcare facilities, with about 22,800 beds, or 27.5 beds for every 10,000 people.
The capital has long struggled with overcrowding in hospitals and health centres, as these institutions are located in densely populated areas of the city.
The new hospitals would help improve the capital city's healthcare services in line with international standards meaning people no longer would have to travel abroad for treatment, Hà Nội People's Committee Deputy Chairman Lê Hồng Sơn said at a recent working session with the municipal Department of Health.
Under Resolution 37 of the Hà Nội People's Council, dated December 10, 2022, ten hospital projects are pending approval by municipal authorities, including the Hà Nội Nephrology Hospital, the upgrading of the Hà Nội Traditional Medicine Hospital, the Hà Nội Disease Control Centre and Đống Đa General Hospital, and the new campus of the Hà Nội Tropical Disease Hospital.
The city also hopes to soon start seven hospital projects, which have already been approved, including renovating the Hà Nội Psychiatric Hospital and the Hà Nội Oncology Hospital, constructing the Hà Nội Heart Hospital, and improving the medical ventilation and sewage treatment systems for all Hà Nội-based hospitals.
In addition, five hospital projects whose implementation was not completed in 2016-2020 will continue, including upgrading and expanding four general hospitals in Thường Tín, Hà Đông and Ba Vì districts, Sơn Tây City, and building Phase 1 of Hà Nội Children's Hospital. — VNS
