ĐÀ NẲNG — A restaurant in Hải Châu District in the central city of Đà Nẵng has been fined VNĐ140 million (US$6,000) for playing music too loudly and causing noise pollution.
TST Garden, belonging to Sao Tháng Tám Trade and Service Ltd Company, played music that was 24.5dBA over the allowed sound level in the area between 9 pm and 6 am. The restaurant is near a church, and the maximum noise allowed under national noise standards is 45 dBA.
Besides the fine, the city People's Committee also stopped the restaurant from playing music loudly. As a result, it was required to take measures to reduce noise to meet current regulations.
Colonel Nguyễn Văn Tăng, Deputy Director of Đà Nẵng City Police, said that the city pays much attention to noise pollution.
Police often received complaints from people about establishments that make noise and keep repeating violations after being fined, Tăng said, adding that fines failed to deter violators.
"To establishments that repeat the offence, their sanction is only a fine. There is no stricter regulation like the withdrawal of the license," Tăng said.
"Đà Nẵng City Police will make recommendations and advise the municipal People's Committee on withdrawal of business licenses to prevent violators from operating," he said.
For the first half of this year, the city police issued 30 noise violations with fines totalling nearly VNĐ 300 million. — VNS
