HCM CITY – Thirty one COVID-19 vaccination centres will remain open in HCM City during Tết, with the rest closing for the holidays.
According to the HCM City Centre for Disease Control (HCDC), they include the District 1 Hospital, District 3 Medical Centre and FV hospital in District 7.
Thủ Đức City has one each in Tam Phú, Linh Đông and Tam Bình wards.
The city announced vaccination plans for spring last week which no longer require registration in advance.
According to the HCDC, most of the city’s COVID deaths are in “high-risk” groups comprising older people, those with underlying medical conditions or have not been fully vaccinated.
People who have recovered from COVID should also be vaccinated since they could be reinfected.
With the effectiveness of vaccine decreasing over time, booster shots improve protection against the Omicron and other possible variants.
Booster shots have been given to over 4.5 million people so far.
The city aims to fully vaccinate everyone aged 12 and above by the end of February.

HCM City, the country’s pandemic epicentre with over 513,000 cases as of January 31, has recorded 92 cases of the Omicron variant, including five community cases.
The city has been taking measures to keep out Omicron such as speeding up vaccination and tightening surveillance at Tân Sơn Nhất Airport. – VNS
