HCM CITY — HCM City authorities must regularly address pressing issues raised by voters — including traffic congestion, environmental pollution, flooding, public security and delayed projects — as part of their responsibility to better serve residents, the city leader said at a recent voter meeting.
The message was highlighted by Nguyễn Văn Được, chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, and candidates for the city People's Council for the 2026-31 term during a meeting with voters from Hóc Môn, Xuân Thới Sơn and Bà Điểm communes on March 5.
Running in electoral unit No. 36 alongside Được are Associate Professor Dr Nguyễn Thanh Bình, a senior lecturer at the University of Science under the Việt Nam National University-HCM City; Hồ Vũ Nam, chairman of the Farmers’ Association of Bà Điểm Commune; Lê Thị Ngọc Thanh, Party Secretary and Chairwoman of the People’s Council of Hóc Môn Commune; and Trần Văn Tuấn, member of the Standing Board of the municipal Party Committee and head of its Internal Affairs Commission.
Presenting their action plans, the candidates pledged to work with responsibility, openness and a strong spirit of public service, while faithfully conveying voters’ opinions and recommendations to the municipal People’s Council and relevant authorities.
Responding to voter feedback, Được said the concerns raised were important because they reflected issues directly affecting people’s daily lives at the grassroots level.
He said the city administration has been promoting reforms in governance toward a model of “integrity, action and service”, shifting from a management-oriented mindset to a service-oriented approach that places residents and businesses at the centre.
“The effectiveness of policies and public satisfaction should serve as key measures of performance.”
The service-oriented approach is considered essential as the city seeks to develop into a modern mega-urban centre following the administrative merger of three economically dynamic localities — HCM City, Bình Dương and Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu.
A similar message was reiterated at earlier voter meetings on March 2 by Nguyễn Lộc Hà, Standing Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, and other candidates running in electoral units No. 1, 2 and 3 during meetings with voters in Thuận An and Thuận Giao wards.

Candidates in these units include Nguyễn Khoa Diệu An; Nguyễn Thu Cúc; Lê Chí Hùng; and Nguyễn Ngọc Thiên Kim.
They emphasised that their action programmes would guide them in fulfilling their responsibilities as people’s representatives.
If elected, the candidates said they would actively participate in legislative and oversight activities, as well as in decisions on important issues for the country and the locality.
They also pledged to strengthen supervision of how authorities address voter petitions, particularly those related to socio-economic development, social welfare and improving living standards.
They stressed that resolving legitimate concerns from voters would contribute to building a safe, civilised and modern city while supporting the city’s sustainable development. — VNS
