“Mother and child” by hearing-impaired artist Duong Phuong Linh. |
ROME — Mother and child, a painting by hearing-impaired Vietnamese artist Dương Phương Linh, is being displayed at the RealEYES art gallery at the Vinicio hotel in Ansedonia, Italy’s Tuscany region.
Linh, who was born deaf, expressed her happiness and hope for a bright future through the painting, which depicts an ethnic minority mother in Sa Pa in northwest Việt Nam carrying her baby on her back and keeping her eyes looking forward.
The painting is one of 12 pieces of art by independent artists and disadvantaged students from art universities and schools on display. They will be exhibited at the gallery until August 5 before travelling to other Italian regions and being auctioned for charity.
The proceeds will contribute to fund the project “Le Cellule di Francesca” (Francesca’s Cells) to study acute myeloid leukaemia.
RealEYES is a competition held by Nana Onlus, a non-profit organisation that promotes education through fostering creative cultural and educational activities for disadvantaged children. — VNS
