HÀ NỘI — Each padded jacket designed by Trịnh Bích Thủy represents a reminder of traditional culture. Her latest collection was released on Saturday in Hà Nội.

She introduced her collection Thọ (Longevity) inspired by traditional patterns and old scripts in Hà Nội’s Old Quarter.

In this collection, Thủy used tafta, silk, organza and brocade. Each jacket is hand-made with its own unique style. Through this collection, the designer sends her wishes of good fortune.

Thủy has been known for years as a designer of padded jackets. She has attempted to update the traditional attire, making them contemporary and high-quality.

In the previous century, padded jackets were familiar to Hanoians. Everyone, man or woman, young or old, owned a padded jacket for winter. While rich people wore expensive coats made from velvet, silk and brocade, the poor often used the same worn jacket year after year.

For Thủy, padded jackets are more than fashion, they contain nostalgia and memories. The coats remind many people of the past, and evoke memories of beloved mothers and grandmothers wearing them.

The exhibition will run until January 12 at the Hà Nội Old Quarter Cultural Exchange Centre, 50 Đào Duy Từ Street, Hà Nội.

During the event, the designer will share with visitors the process of making a padded jacket and how to mix the jacket with other clothes and accessories. — VNS
