HCM CITY — More than 800,000 people visited the annual 2017 Spring Flower Festival at Tao Đàn Park in HCM City during Tết (Lunar New Year) holidays.
The 12-day event, which ended on February 2, the sixth day of the lunar calendar’s first month, displayed 5,000 indigenous and foreign flowers, ornamental fish, bonsai plants and trees.
They were mostly provided by florists, farms, handicraft villages and business people involved in agriculture from southern provinces, according to Trần Quang Lâm, deputy director of the city’s Department of Transport, head of the festival’s organising board.
Well-known handicraft villages and farms in HCM City and provinces of Bình Dương, Bến Tre, Tiền Giang, Vĩnh Long and Đồng Tháp introduced their products at the festival.
In addition to flower displays and sales, the event included dozens of musical and dance performances in praise of the country, soldiers and late President Hồ Chí Minh, which were staged by State-owned traditional art troupes.
Cultural exhibits such as traditional food festivals, thư pháp (calligraphy) and painting displays were also featured.
Many visitors participated in a variety of street shows featuring folk art and games staged by hundreds of puppet and circus performers every night.
The festival’s theme, HCM City-Bright Aspiration, highlighted the city and its development.
