HÀ NỘI — The Belgian Embassy in Hà Nội is for the first time organising “Belgian Week in Việt Nam” to celebrate its King’s Day on November 15. Festivities will begin on Saturday.
Events will be held in both Hà Nội and HCM City to showcase Belgium’s culture to Vietnamese people.
The cultural week will kick off on Saturday with Belgian DJ-producer ATTAR! performing at Hanoi Rock City; he will perform at Piu Piu Club in HCM City on November 18. ATTAR! is one of the driving forces of Brussels’ electronic music scene and has played across the world. In the late 80s, the Belgians pioneered the electronic music scene. The country hosts one of the biggest electronic music festivals in the world, Tomorrowland.
To introduce Belgium to Việt Nam, a “.be Belgian Day” will be organised on Sunday at the Summer Park, Ecopark, Hưng Yên Province. Visitors can sample Belgian specialties like chocolate, waffles and beer, among other things, and will have the chance to win various prizes. People will get the chance to learn about Belgian culture, literature, cinema, education, regions, cities, nature and enterprises as well as the relations between their country and Belgium. A wide variety of activities will also be organised for children in the outdoor park to introduce them to Belgium.
The event will sport a book corner, there will be games on traffic safety, helmet decoration and quizzes. Winners of the photo contest, “My Belgium”, which began in August, will be announced during the day. An exhibition showcasing the best pictures of Belgium through Vietnamese eyes will also be open to the public.
To conclude the week-long event, famous Jazz pianist Jef Neve will play at the official reception that marks King’s Day on November 15 at the Temple of Literature in Hà Nội. The performance will be held next Friday at the Opera House in HCM City. Neve is Belgium’s most renowned Jazz talent. He has performing in many countries and has collaborated with various artists. —VNS
