HÀ NỘI — An exhibition in Hà Nội is bringing together five artists and their widely different perspectives of landscapes in the capital city. 

Each artist offers a unique visual language and rhythm, coming together to create a diverse and evocative artistic experience.

Beyond presenting their views on the city's urban scenery, the exhibition also opens a dialogue on memory, identity and the changing cultural landscape of northern Việt Nam.

The five artists – Đậu Quang Anh, Trần Đình Bình, Chu Viết Cường, Vũ Đức Hiếu and Trịnh Vũ Hiếu – have come together to tell a story of Hà Nội and its surrounding areas.

"The exhibition moves through a range of rhythms, leisurely, lively, contemplative and evocative," said curator Lý Đợi. "The artists present a poetic vision of the landscape, at once familiar and unfamiliar, classical and contemporary, reflecting the complexity of life itself."

Đợi added: "If rhythm is understood as the intentional repetition of visual elements as a whole – with melodies in colour palettes, musicality in lines, poetry in composition and consistency in ideas to create a seamless emotional flow that allows viewers to imagine and anticipate the pace and narrative – this exhibition has achieved exactly that."

Paintings by Anh evoke nostalgia, in which Hà Nội’s streets appear both familiar and hazy, as if drawn from distant memories.

Meanwhile, Bình embraces a quieter rhythm. Architectural works and heritage sites emerge as moments of stillness, inviting viewers to reflect on the passage of time.

Inner by Vũ Đức Hiếu.

Cường turns his attention to humble spaces that are gradually disappearing amid urbanisation. Meanwhile, Đức Hiếu and Vũ Hiếu go beyond depicting tangible landscapes, exploring the inner world in which emotions, memories and spiritual life become the subjects of their paintings.

Another notable feature of the exhibition is the presence of sơn mài (lacquer) alongside acrylic. At this exhibition, lacquer not only highlights the beauty of traditional craftsmanship, but is also a medium for expressing reflections on memory, landscape and cultural identity.
