ĐÀ NẴNG — The first Ngọc Linh Ginseng and Medicinal Herbs International Festival will be held from August 1-3 in Đà Nẵng City to promote not only the famous endemic ginseng but also other medicinal herbs.It will take place in the city centre and the communes of Trà Linh, Nam Trà My, Trà Vân, Bến Hiên, Trà Leng and Trà Tập.

The opening ceremony, with the theme “Ngọc Linh Ginseng – The Essence of Global Herbal Medicine”, will be held on August 1.

There will be display areas promoting Ngọc Linh, Korean, Chinese, Canadian and Russian ginseng varieties, as well as local and global medicinal herbs.

Visitors can enjoy foods made from ginseng and other herbs alongside traditional ethnic cuisines and try ginseng products such as supplements, cosmetics and medicines.

There will be a Ngọc Linh ginseng competition for medicinal values and distinctive shapes.

An auction will be organised to raise money for ginseng conservation efforts, community development activities and scholarships for disadvantaged ethnic children.

The second day will feature promotional activities for trade, tourism, science and sports, including an international scientific seminar on Ngọc Linh ginseng and herbal medicines.

Visitors can register for tours from July 31 to August 3 to visit ginseng farms.

On the third day, a ceremony will be held to designate August 3 as Ngọc Linh Ginseng Day.

The festival aims to promote the unique attributes of Ngọc Linh ginseng and cooperation between government agencies, businesses, scientists, and investors, Chairman of the Đà Nẵng City People’s Committee Hồ Quang Bửu said.

It will also facilitate investment in developing the ginseng and medicinal herbs value chain, commercialising ginseng products, and promoting research and technology transfer, with the aim of standardising and expanding the Ngọc Linh ginseng market, he said

City authorities have suggested establishing a Ngọc Linh ginseng inspection unit comprising experts and relevant personnel to control product quality.

Ngọc Linh ginseng, recognised as a national intangible cultural heritage, is an endemic Vietnamese plant known for its medicinal properties. — VNS
