HÀ NỘI — A company in Mỹ Hào District, northern Hưng Yên Province, has been fined more than VNĐ600 million (US$26,000) for various environmental violations.
Phương Đông Import and Export Joint Stock Company was subjected to administrative penalties for failing to report the spill of waste mud containing toxic elements.
The company discharged waste water exceeding technical standard by three to less than five times. It also released 50 to less than 100 cubic metres per day without any licence.
The penalty was enhanced as the company repeated the violations. It was earlier fined twice for the same violations.
Hưng Yên Province’s People’s Committee suspended the Phương Đông company’s releasing activities for causing environmental pollution and revoked its licence to release waste water for six months.
The company has been asked to resolve the issue within 30 days of receiving the punishment.
