HÀ NỘI — Household and individual businesses in Hà Nội will be able to access tax filing services through the iHanoi application, under a cooperation agreement signed on Monday between the city's Tax Department and Department of Science and Technology. 

Under the first phase of the initiative, household and individual businesses will be able to access tax registration information, tax obligations and other data needed to prepare tax returns directly on the iHanoi app.

Later phases will expand the platform to allow users to prepare and submit tax returns and receive processing results online through the same application.

Lê Long, deputy director of the Hà Nội Tax Department, said the agreement marked a step towards implementing the national digital transformation strategy and building a citizen- and business-centred digital government.

Long said household and individual businesses played an important role in the country's private sector by contributing to economic growth, job creation and social welfare. As e-commerce and digital business models expand, tax authorities need to modernise administration while making compliance easier for taxpayers, he said.

According to Long, digital transformation went beyond digitising administrative procedures to creating smart, user-friendly public services. Citizens would need to submit information only once, with data securely shared across Government agencies, while the system would provide automated guidance and reminders to help taxpayers comply with tax obligations, he added.

Nguyễn Tiến Sỹ, deputy director of the municipal Department of Science and Technology, said the cooperation would improve access to tax information for hundreds of thousands of household businesses in the capital, reducing paperwork, travel time and filing errors while encouraging greater use of online public services.

He called on both agencies to complete technical integration, ensure stable and secure system operations, strengthen public awareness campaigns on the iHanoi application and the eTax Mobile platform, and provide sufficient support staff to handle taxpayer enquiries.

The two agencies will also monitor the programme using indicators including user numbers, the share of electronic filings, processing times, taxpayer satisfaction and system performance, to further improve digital tax services.

The initiative is part of Hà Nội's efforts to accelerate administrative reform and improve services for businesses, particularly household and individual businesses.

According to the Hanoi Support Centre for Enterprise and Investment Promotion under the municipal Department of Finance, the city has the second-largest number of businesses nationwide and records about 3,000 new business registrations each year. — VNS
