HCM CITY – Over 50 students in the 15-18 age group took part in a five-day summer camp in HCM City and learnt entrepreneurial skills through a range of activities.

The five-day, English-only Young Entrepreneurs Adventure Camp (YEA Camp), which ended on July 8, was organised by YEA Việt Nam – a non-profit organization focusing on fostering entrepreneurship among students.

In the camp students participated in activities such as generating new ideas, building prototypes, pitching business ideas, market research, seminars and learning about business skills from people from professional backgrounds.

On the last day of the camp, they presented and defended their start-up business plans in front of panellists, with the winners getting scholarships.

Nguyễn Hoàng Quỳnh Nhiên, founder of YEA Việt Nam, said the aim was to develop students’ entrepreneurial mindset, passion and skills and offer them an opportunity for self reflection, thus helping them realise their strengths, capabilities and what they want to do in future.

“The summer camp helps bring out the confidence and creativity in students, which I think Việt Nam as a whole requires, as many students are made to only focus on studying and exams, which are not really practical and does not allow students to express their creativity.”

Phạm Như Trang, a 12th grader, said the camp helped her gain an insight into different business fields and meet new friends and business experts, who taught her useful things such as fundamental business theories and communication skills.

“It was a lot of fun and challenging. I got to meet a lot of experts and learnt a lot from this camp.”

Lê Mạnh Tường, a university student who had attended the camp in the past, said participating in YEA Camp had helped him with his career orientation and university selection, as well as got him thinking about entrepreneurship. – VNS
