HCM CITY — Saigon Co.op said its retail stores served three times the normal number of shoppers during the Tết (Lunar New Year) holiday.
Speaking at a meeting with HCM City leaders on February 21, Nguyễn Anh Đức, permanent general director of Saigon Co.op, said revenues during Tết had been three times normal, and 10 per cent higher than last year.
Though a large number of customers flocked to Co.opmart, Co.op Food and Co.opXtra supermarkets, there were no shortages or long queues, he added.
The stores reopened after Tết on February 17.
Trần Vĩnh Tuyến, vice chairman of the city People’s Committee, hailed the efforts made by Saigon Co.op’s officials and employees to better serve customers during the year’s biggest festival.
Additionally, Saigon Co.op has distributed more than 10,000 Tết gifts to poor households, policy beneficiaries and underprivileged workers in many provinces and cities, including places where it has stores, and organised mobile sales trips.
Also. its trade union set aside nearly VNĐ6 billion (US$264,084) for visiting and supporting hundreds of its disadvantaged members, offering each VNĐ1-5 million. — VNS
