BẮC GIANG — Samsung Electronics Việt Nam has funded the construction of standard toilets completed with water purification systems for 26 elementary and secondary schools in the northern province of Bắc Giang.
The facilities, which will benefit more than 13,100 students, were handed over to the beneficiary schools in a ceremony at Lê Hồng Phong primary school in Bắc Giang City on Wednesday.
The project was implemented from October 2017 in eight local districts at a total cost of over VNĐ6 billion (US$264,600).
Speaking at the ceremony, general director of Samsung Electronics Việt Nam Shin Won-Hwan said the project aimed to create a clean and safe environment for students, ensuring the best conditions for them to grow.
The vice chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, Lại Thanh Sơn said the project helps raise awareness of students, parents and teachers about good hygienic habits.
He wished that the South Korea Embassy in Việt Nam, the Samsung Electronics Việt Nam and the non-governmental organisation Korea Food for the Hungry International (KFHI) would continue supporting and investing in the province in the future.
Bắc Giang has been providing a large workforce for nearby provinces, most of who work at Samsung Electronics Việt Nam in Bắc Ninh (SEV) and Samsung Electronics Việt Nam in Thái Nguyên (SEVT). The total number of employees from Bắc Giang working at these two factories of Samsung is about 29,400, taking over more than 19 per cent total number of Samsung’s workforce in Việt Nam. Investing to develop infrastructure of education industry in Bắc Giang has been one of the noble acts to honour local citizens and the Bắc Giang Province.
Besides, Samsung Việt Nam began to provide scholarships for 200 outstanding students in Bắc Giang since 2017 by collaborating with Hội Khuyến Học Bắc Giang. — VNS
