HCM CITY — Vietnamese residents aged 18 and above with an interest in the retail industry are encouraged to participate in the “1 tỉ khởi nghiệp cùng Saigon Co.op” (Startup with Saigon Co.op to win VNĐ1 billion) contest, launched in HCM City on Saturday.

The contest will be conducted like a reality TV show and broadcast on HTV9 from October 15 to December 21, in which candidates will compete in skills needed for a successful startup, including professional and management knowledge, innovative skills, and skills for handling unexpected situations.

Registration will be held from August 28 to September 10. The organisers will select the top 50 candidates from around the country via direct enrollment rounds in Hà Nội, Đà Nẵng and HCM City.

In the final round, the top 10 contestants will stay in the same house in HCM City and experience competitions and challenges to find the three top contestants, who will then compete for the first, second and third prizes.

Candidates who win the first prize will be given a contract to own and operate a modern Co.op Smile grocery store worth VNĐ1 billion (US$44,052).

Awards for the second and third prizes will be 50 per cent of a Co.op Smile store (equivalent to VNĐ500 million) and 30 per cent of a Co.op Smile store (equivalent to VNĐ300 million).

Also, on the same day, Saigon Co.op along with domestic producers launched the “Proud of Vietnamese Goods” programme, the company’s largest promotion programme of the year.

The programme promotes consumption of Vietnamese goods and enables consumers to buy locally made products with a clear origin and at a reasonable price. — VNS
