HÀ NỘI More than 290 people in the southern city of Vũng Tàu, Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu Province, have been hospitalised for suspected food poisoning after consuming bread at a local food stall, Vietnam News Agency reported.
The victims were sent to Vũng Tàu Hospital and Vietsovpetro Healthcare Centre on Wednesday and Thursday with the same symptoms of stomachache, dizziness, nausea and diarrhoea.
As of Thursday morning, of the 291 victims, about 150 are still being treated in the hospital, while the others have been discharged.
According to the Vietnam News Agency, all victims ate bread at a bread and sticky rice stall in Ward 7, Vũng Tàu City.
The suspected food that caused the mass poisoning was bread containing boiled pork, pork floss, butter, pate, pork sausage, sauce, pickles, onions and coriander.
The patients reportedly ate the bread from about 4pm on Tuesday to 11pm the same day.
The stall sells about 1,000 breads per day, according to its owner.
The owner has not yet presented business, food safety certificates or documents proving the origin of the food and food ingredients and the facility did not ensure hygiene conditions.
The authorities took samples of all remaining food at the stall and sent samples to the HCM City Institute of Public Health for testing of microbiological indicators.
The case is being further investigated. VNS
