Vietnamese athletes are ready to compete at the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship 2019 to be held in Nice, France on September 7-8.

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese athletes are getting ready to compete at the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship 2019 to be held in Nice, France on September 7-8.

The race will feature a swim in the pristine waters of the Mediterranean Sea, a challenging bike ride and a run course along Nice’s historic Promenade des Anglais waterfront.

Athletes will be cheered on by the enthusiastic supporters for every mile of the 70.3 course.

Seven Vietnamese out of more than 5,500 players secured rights to take part. They are Lê Thủy, Phạm Thúy Vi (female); Trần Toàn, Nguyễn Anh Tuấn, Phạm Quang Minh, Lê Hoàng and Huỳnh Thanh Duy (male).

Thủy earned a ticket after finishing first in the age group of 40-45 of female in the Techcombank IRONMAN 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship in Đà Nẵng in May with a time of 6:56.18.

Vi will take part in the world event after becoming the best female Vietnamese athlete in the Techcombank IRONMAN 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship 2019 with a time of 5:33.49.

Meanwhile, Minh and also had good results at the IRONMAN 70.3 Subic Bay 2019 and IRONMAN 70.3 Bangsaen 2019, respectively.

“Earning a spot to compete in the world event is very meaningful for me. It helps me have more driving force to train and compete,” said Duy. — VNS
