First Vietnamese woman completes Boston Marathon

Vietnamese runner Nguyễn Linh Chi completed the 2019 Boston Marathon on Tuesday.

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese runner Nguyễn Linh Chi completed the 2019 Boston Marathon on Tuesday.

Chi, who is the first Vietnamese woman ever to earn a place to compete in the prestigious event, reached to the finish line with a time of 3:09.31.

Chi said that with this result, she has qualified for the next Boston Marathon in 2020.

The title on the women’s side went to Worknesh Degafa of Ethiopia with a time of 02:23.31. The runners-up were Edna Kiplagat of Kenya with a time of 02:24.13 and Jordan Hasay of the US with a time of 02:25.20.

Lawrence Cherono of Kenya triumphed in the men’s side after clocking a time of 2:07.57. Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia and Kenneth Kipkemoi of Kenya finished second and third.

Chi qualified for the race by finishing in three hours and 23 minutes at the Clif Mountains 2 Beach Marathon 2018 in California, a result 12 minutes faster than the qualification cutoff for her 30-39 age group. — VNS
